2020 Premiership Player Jake Von Bertouch has announced his retirement from the SANFL after over a decade at Oval Avenue.
On his time at the Club Von Bertouch said, “It’s been an honour to pull on the Eagles guernsey over the past 10 years. I feel privileged to have played for a Club that demands success year in year out. I would like to thank the Eagles fans for their support over the years. I look forward to supporting the Club for years to come.”
Von Bertouch came to the Club from Kadina as a 15-year-old key forward, however made his name at League level initially as a key defender lining up on some of the best key forwards of the competition each week. It wasn’t until the start of the 2020 season that he returned to the forward line as new coach Jade Sheedy decided to combine Von Bertouch with Jack and Nick Hayes as the main targets in the front half. A move which proved significant in the successful 2020 campaign with Von Bertouch kicking 25 goals from 16 matches that season.
On Von Bertouch’s departure CEO Luke Powell said, “Jake has given our Club great service over a long period. He is a much-loved player within our playing group and will be sorely missed. We wish Jake all the best for the future.”
