With Six players making their Under 16 debut, Country Players Riley Beech, Mitchell Harris, Tain Mathie, Cooper Quick & Will Young alongside Jack Leys from our Metropolitan Zone experienced the standards of SANFL Under 16 Footy for the first time.
Whilst we were good at the initial contest during the first half, Sturt unfortunately made us really pay for it on the outside and making power up forward, the second quarter in particular let us down with Sturt kicking 6 goals 3 points to our no score. At half time Sturt held a handy lead of 51 points.
In the Second half we played a much more Accountable brand of Footy and were able to limit the damage to 23 points for the half. With Sturt being a much better Team on the day and going on to win by 74pts.
Our better players included, Owen Hartley Brown, Tain Mathie, Jamie Russell Swanson, Brock Jamieson, Anthony Beracci & Cooper Quick. With Zane Peucker & Cooper Quick kicking a goal each.
Whilst the performance we weren’t looking for I’m sure the players who haven’t played much footy at this level will certainly gain some good learnings from the experience and improve as the Season progresses.
This week we take on Central Districts out at the Ponderosa and look forward to a much more improved effort on Saturday.
