A big win was required on Sunday for our Under 16 Team to make the finals in 2023.
We began well, kicking the first 2 goals however South responded and kicked the next 3 goals taking a 4 point lead into quarter time. Our second quarter the best for the game kicking 4 goals to South’s 2, giving us a 6 point lead at the main break.
The Third quarter was very similar to the first, began well however we couldn’t sustain our defensive work thru transition and South were able to kick 6 goals to our 3, opening up a 13 point lead. The last was a bit of an arm wrestle with South and ourselves kicking 2 goals 3 a piece.
Our better performers included Brock Jamieson, Hayden Willmott, Zane Peucker, Jamie Russell Swansson, Logan Hughes & Tain Mathie. With 3 goals to Tarkyn Moffat, 2 goals each to Cooper Reschke & Jamie Russell Swannsson and singles to Jack Mumford, Brock Jamieson, Zane Peucker and Hayden Willmott.
Whilst we didn’t end up playing Finals, winning 8 Games and pushing for a spot in the end gave the players motive to continue to play the best they could.
I would like to conclude by thanking All 51 players that put on the Eagles guernsey during the Under 16 Program, to their families for all their support and hopefully by this experience it will help give them an understanding of what is required moving forward. To our Physio & Medical Team along with our support staff who do a fantastic job in looking after the Players.
Many thanks to the Assistant Coaches, Tony Calio, Kym Markwickand Wayne Prideaux. To Liam Galanti our S&C and Runner, Team Manager Jamie Allen for all their hard work in preparing the players to play at a higher level.
Good luck to our Under 18’s who prepare for a Finals campaign and to the Reserves who are also pushing for a Finals spot.
