The Under 18s had a good win against North Adelaide on Saturday, winning a close fought tussle by 11 points.
The Roosters started the better of the two teams and kicked 4 goals in the first quarter whilst restricting us to 2 goals. Whilst we had some chances in the second quarter we couldn’t kick a goal with North’s defence on top and with just the four points for the quarter and North kicking 1 goal 2 points we found ourselves 15 points down at the main break.
We responded strongly after half time kicking early goals and won the quarter kicking 4 goals to North’s 2 goals and we were 2 points behind at three quarter time. We continued our good play in the last quarter as the rain came and were able to grind out an 11 point win kicking 3 goals to 1.
A number of players contributed to the win and Kade Herbert continued his good form in our midfield with a strong four quarter performance assisted by Brody Mair who was strong in the contest, Pat Toole was a presence in our forward line with 3 goals and also did some good work on the ball, Harry Dodd was another four quarterperformer in defence, with Jake Andrews and Tate Delmenico also doing some good work with him. Archie Charles with 2 goals from his wing, Tyler Welsh with 2 goals and Griff Hansen’s efforts in ruck really helped us get back into the game after half time.
Good luck to our State squad representatives this week as they for selection in the first game of the National Championships with a game against the “Allies” on Sunday at Thebarton Oval. Our representatives are Callum Fairall, Pat Toole, Pat Weckert, Rome Burgoyne, Kade Herbert, Tom Luck, and Tyler Welsh.
We turn our attention now to Glenelg this week at home from 11am on Saturday.
