The Under 18s secured it’s first win of the season on Saturday, defeating West Adelaide by 10 points, 9.9 (63) to 7.11 (53) leading at every change, by 5, 6 and 18 points respectively and playing a good brand of footy.
We have played West Adelaide three times in 4 rounds so we were very familiar with each other and this week was a very special occasion, playing for the Jake Watson Shield.
We commemorated the 20th anniversary of Jake tragically losing his life on the footy field playing against the Eagles in April 2002. We set ourselves to give our best efforts for the occasion and the boys certainly did that.
Mattaes Phillipou continues his strong form in our midfield and forward, Nathan Barkla is also showing great consistency, Jordan Tilbrook and Blake Hansen gave us a lot of drive from their wings, Liam Modytsach and Elex Day both defended brilliantly and Jonte Hunter-Price did some very good things for us in ruck and forward. We had many other good contributors during the game and that team effort helped us enormously.
This week saw the debut Ned Ross and Kade Herbert (Under 16), both from our country zones and they both did well – Ned kicking a goal with his first kick and Kade kicking a goal as well and it was a great sight seeing team mates mob them!
So to next week and we take on Sturt at home from 1.15 pm – where we will look to build on our form.
