The Under 18s had a very good win against Glenelg on Sunday, winning 18 goals 5 points to Glenelg’s 13 goals 4 points. Straight kicking from both teams! It was a very contested match and we played reasonably well in the first half and held a 28 point lead at half time. The first part of the 3rd quarter was highlighted by both teams trading goals but the Tigers really put it to us by kicking 8 goals straight for the quarter and they took a 1 point lead into three quarter time.
Glenelg simply won more of the footy in that quarter and finished off their work well. In the last quarter the players really responded well and kicked 7 goals to 2 goals to win the match. We were able to get our hands on the footy and similar to Glenelg in the third quarter we finished off our work in front of goals.
We played another two new players to Under 18 footy this week and Cooper Hayes did some great work in defence and Nathan Francis provided a good contest for us in our forward line. Our best player for the day was Shaun McNeilly who was a pillar of strength in our defence rebounding the ball 10 times and giving us a lot of run and carry.
Whilst our midfielders certainly had quiet 3rd quarters, Harry Schoenberg, Luke Beecken (4 goals) and Zane Williams were good contributors overall. Josh Morris continued his good form up forward with 5 goals and Caleb Poulter and Luke Barnett both played well.
We have a short turnaround this week with a match on Thursday night against West Adelaide from 6.45pm at City Mazda Stadium, hope to see a few Eagles supporters there
