The Under 18s had an exciting game against North Adelaide on Saturday, winning by 9 points. We started well kicking with the aid of a pretty significant breeze and whilst we had a few shots on goal, we didn’t quite put scoreboard pressure on and we went into quarter time with 3 goals 6 points on the board, holding North to just the 2 points. North quickly cut into that margin with 2 goals in 5 minutes to start the second quarter and were within 3 points at the 15 minute mark but we managed to control the quarter from that point on and kicked the last 2 goals to take a 16 point lead into half time.
North outplayed us in the 3rd quarter holding us to 2 goals whilst kicking 1 themselves and so it was set for a tough last quarter into the breeze if we were to come away with our first win. When North kicked 3 goals in the first 8 minutes to draw within 3 points the job was looking tougher, however the players rallied and found ways to better defend and win the ball back and we were able to keep the ball in our forward half and eventually kick a goal to give us a 9 point margin which we held on to.
It was a good team effort and Jase Burgoyne continued his great form working well in our midfield with Harry Dawkins and Zac Buck, Zac Phillips played well in ruck, Tom Sheldon did a great job in defence all day and Charlie Blair was a very hard working forward. This week we debuted another 2 players in Will Neumann and Jack Wheare and both made important contributions. Next week sees the college season commence and we wish all the players well with their footy commitments there and look forward to welcoming them back to our program in September.
This coming Saturday we will take on the top side Glenelg at home from 11.30am and it is a challenge we are all looking forward to.
