A solid performance over the final 3 quarters of Saturday’s game allowed us to achieve a 60 point win and in consecutive weeks, kick a wining score of over 100 points. The last time we had achieved this as a Club was back in Round 10 & 11 of 2016. We also kept West Adelaide under 50 points and could have very easily been under 40 points except Angus Poole turned up a little angrier than normal, giving away a few late frees.
The 1st quarter seemed to go the way of West Adelaide, however there some emerging trends in the game early on. Our ability to beat West Adelaide on the outside of the contest with speed and ball movement was very promising. At quarter time we addressed if we could get the ball to the outside quickly and move the ball slightly more direct to goal then opportunities would open up. With in 5 minutes we had the contested ball levelled up and the uncontested ball was again heavily in our advantage. This combination was perfect and us to kick 6 goals to nil in the second quarter.
The 2nd half continued to go our way, we were able to apply a further 9 goals to 5. In the last 2 weeks our goal kicking has improved with our efficiency in front of goal this week sitting at 59% accuracy.
We had a few issues during the game that we had to overcome. We had 6 blood rule rotations, out of that 3 players required stitches and and the other 3 were all knocks to the nose. Jack Hayes also pulled up sore with a late knock to the leg.
Our Key defenders in Jake Von Bertouch, Luke Thompson and Patrick Giuffreda are all in fantastic form down back. Redden and Guilhaus controlled the ruck throughout the day and James Rowe was exceptional again kicking 4 goals. Johansen, Petrenko and Foote all contributed in their particular role.
Our focus is now set on Norwood and we have a healthy challenge ahead of us over the next few weeks. We’d love your support as we go after a top 3 side on Saturday at the Parade.
