Playing South Adelaide at Maughan Thiem Kia oval we were looking to make it 3 consecutive wins in a row and set ourselves up for a strong second half of the year. The work on the training track and vision that the players had been exposed too over the previous 2 weeks had us understanding how we would like to go about our football for the day.
The first quarter was not the type of football we have been accustomed to from the reserves team. We were not sharp enough around the contest and we allowed South Adelaide to out work us at the contest and on the ground as they took a 10 point lead into quarter time.
I thought our second quarter showed a lot of maturity from a young group as were able to execute our skills quite well and control the footy for the majority of the quarter whilst allowing our cornerstone of our footy hard contested football shine through as we turned a 10 point deficit into a 10 point lead.
Half time was spent on the group staying composed and finding the easy option. This allowed us to get some real flow with our game and have 17 scoring shots for the half and take out a 32 point lead.
If I look at this group I know we are dangerous when we can get the ball inside 50 as we scored 65% of the time which is a very good indication the way we have been looking to move the ball is ending up in scores for our team.
Next week we take on Central in a top of the later clash. After playing them a few weeks ago we understand it will be a hard slog which we will embrace.
