Heading out to Elizabeth on Saturday is always a tough task and the weekend was very much that with a strong four quarter effort gaining us our 3rd straight victory. It was great to have senior players James Boyd and Chris Hall back in the side and performing well, whilst Jake Comitoganni was also a solid contributor after being a late inclusion for Jesse Lonergan.
You never want to be coming from behind against Centrals on their home deck so it was pleasing to start the game strongly, Nick Hayes was everywhere up forward as we put the first three goals on the board. Central were able to fight back in the second half of the quarter, getting their transition game going with some easy out the back goals.
For the remainder of the match it felt as if we controlled it for large portions, which was reflective with 110 marks for the game. However, Centrals were always still in the game kicking goals at important times to stay within reach. Entering time on in the last quarter putting together three straight goals ultimately sealed victory.
It was great to see Jake Johansen perform well in his 100th game kicking two goals to go with his 22 possessions whilst key position players Jack Hayes, in his 50th match, and Jake Von Bertouch played pivotal roles in the win. Again as a team our ability to score was strong with 28 scoring shots from 50 entries. Our goal kicking improved on the weekend but certainly has scope to improve further.
This week we come up against West Adelaide who outplayed us comfortably in our last meeting so we will look to continue the form of our last month and continue our push towards a top five spot.
