Round 9 saw us take on West at City Mazda. After losing by 3 points in Round 2 we came well prepared ready for a big hit out. It was a momentous occasion for the group with Tesharna Maher and Bronwyn Davey combining for your first mother-daughter combo in a match.
The first quarter saw us hit the scoreboard early with a lead up mark and goal by Steph Walker. Abby Pengelly and Natalie Subelli worked hard through the mid, attacking the packs hard and winning the ball. Georgia Taylor follow up with another major soon after and we went into the first break a goal ahead.
Tash Farrier managed to slot a major in the second but West stepped it up and attacked well. The defence held up on the back on some hard work by Ash Reid who dislocated her nose not once but twice, coming off for an extended time on both occasions. Chloe Forby and Abby Pengelly collided hard in front of goals, unfortunately Pengelly took no further part in the match. Both teams were down to two on the bench for the majority of the latter half of the match.
The last quarter saw West boot two major and take the lead for the first time since the first. The Eagles girls stood tall and fought back, with Jaimi Tabb and Kiana Lee getting plenty of the ball up forward. The two youngsters worked well together, adding 1.2 to the teams tally in the last few minutes. Unfortunately it was not quite enough with West holding on by 5 points.
