Eagles 2.2 (14) def by Norwood 5.12 (42)
Best Players: Steph Walker, Adele Gibson, Jaimi Tabb, Ashlee Reid, Kiana Lee, Grace Smallacombe
Goal Scorers: Tash Farrier, Sarah Perkins
We came up against undefeated Norwood on Friday night at X Convenience oval in Round 4. The Bye allowed for some extra time for recovery for players who had sustained injuries in pre-season, allowing Taylor McKay (Fwd) and Jess Wilson (Mid) to come in for their first games of the year.
The Legs absolutely bolted out of the gates in the first quarter, booting two goals quite quickly and spreading our defence. Although we also managed forward entries ourself, we were unable to convert. With Norwood adding two more to their tally we went into quarter time four goals down.
The next three quarters saw a completely different match. The Eagles held their match ups and restricted Norwood’s scoring, keeping them goalless for the second and holding them to one in the third. After letting some opportunities go begging, we were able to finally hit the scoreboard in the third, with Co-Captain Tash Farrier booting her first major for the Eagles.
As has been the way we finished stronger than we started, kicking the only goal in the last quarter. McKay was strong up forward in her first hit out and Jaimi Tabb and Steph Walker were influential around stoppages again. Co-Captain Adele Gibson had her best game, putting pressure on the opposition at every opportunity and Chloe Forby showed some spark up forward.
First quarter aside, the Eagles managed to out together a strong effort against the top side. We look forward to taking on South Adelaide at Flinders University Stadium this Saturday.
