Eagles 5.2 (32) def by Glenelg 7.9 (51)
Goal Scorers: Lee 2, Dunstan, Forby, Zecevic
Best Players: Forby, Lee, Reid, McKay, Tabb, Walker
Our final game saw us take on Glenelg at Gliderol Stadium. Having played the Bays in Round 1 we saw this as an opportunity to gauge our improvement over the season. We started well, exerting plenty of pressure on the opposition. Chloe Forby earned herself a free kick with a great tackle in the goal square, finishing off with the first major of the match. Ebony Marinoff and Ellen Fauser worked their way in to the game for Glenelg, with the later slotting a major to even things up. The Bays added another and went into the break up.
The second and third quarters again saw an inconsistent effort from us. At times we looked strong, winning contested ball and leading hard. Others we were second to the ball and scrambling to shut down Glenelgs attack. Taylor McKay started to hit her stride in her second game in the ruck, getting her hands on the ball and starting to give our mids some space to work into. The Bays added five more to our one over the second and third, with ours mids unable to contain Marinoff and Fauser.
In the last quarter the girls dug deep and came out firing. Kiana Lee booted a goal from her first run in the midfield, and Jovanka Zecevic kicked her first for the year. Rachel Dunstan managed her first of the match also, with the Bays only adding one major for the term. Chloe Forby was outstanding over the match, laying 15 tackles for the day. Ash Reid was also solid down back again, demonstrating the consistency she has shown every week.
Although we would have loved a win in a our last game, overall it was a very competitive game and a great hit out from the Eagles women’s team.
