On Saturday we played our final game of the season as a Development League Team against Central District at X Convenience Oval.
Saturday we used every available player on our list across both grades on the weekend which was not ideal, but also extremely exciting for those girls getting an opportunity to play. We were really impressed with our first half in hot conditions, we were cracking in and gaining repeat entries inside forward 50 which was a focus of ours. Unfortunately, we were just not able to capitalise on these entries in the first half. The second half through injuries meant we only had one rotation on the bench, so we knew as coaches we were asking a lot of the girls and just wanted to see them compete.
Mikayla Cavallaro was fantastic again around the footy continuing her form. Nikita McRostie was also brilliant again and has proven to be a great competitor. Although a loss is disappointing, the girls gave it their absolute all which is pleasing.
With the first year of the Development League now finished, I think it has been a brilliant opportunity for the girls to be exposed to footy at a higher level, but also as coaches being able to identify and find even more talent in our zones. I would like to thank Narelle Smith and the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club for giving me the opportunity to coach this group and be part of the program in 2022. I would also like to thank all the coaches, volunteers and members involved in the program for their support each and every week.
I am looking forward to seeing the progression in 2023.
