The Under 18s lost our Round 2 game to Glenelg on Saturday, going down by 26 points. We started really well pushing up into a fairly strong breeze and had the first 3 goals for the game before Glenelg steadied with some late goals and took a narrow lead in to quarter time. Our turn with the wind and we didn’t quite convert well enough although we were able to take a narrow lead into half time. Once again a very good early part of the third quarter but we couldn’t quite nail the goals to put real scoreboard pressure on and again the Tigers hit back with some goals late in the quarter to take a 15 point lead into three quarter time. We started well enough in the last quarter but again were not able to convert our opportunities and on the other hand the Bays did and although we kept attacking and generating a lot of inside 50s we just couldn’t score well enough and Glenelg were worthy winners.
Liam Ueding and Brock Thomson were resolute in our defence, Cormack O’Reilly gave us a lot of drive on his wing and Sam Nicholls did some nice things in our midfield and he was helped by Jase Burgoyne playing his first game of the year and Jonte Hunter-Price did some good things in ruck and around the ground.
Samuel Harnas, Seb Menta and Mattaes Phillipou all played their first games of Under 18 football this week and made some good contributions to the team throughout the game.
This week we are looking forward to playing South Adelaide away.
