Healthy communities at forefront of new partnership

SANFL Premiers Woodville West Torrens Football Club (WWTFC) and The Hospital Research Foundation (THRF) Group are excited to be joining forces in 2021 to strengthen their mutual focus on the health and wellbeing of the community.

With THRF Group coming on board as the Eagles’ official charity partner, the two organisations hope to kick goals in raising awareness for the fight against deadly diseases, with a particular focus on their heartlands in the western suburbs.

WWTFC Chief Executive Officer Luke Powell is proud to have THRF on board as its major charity partner in 2021 and says the partnership will help strengthen the Club’s values of health and wellbeing.

“The Hospital Research Foundation plays an extremely important role in the health sector, supporting over 50 areas of research and patient care; many of which have touched the lives of families and friends of Woodville West Torrens Football Club,” Luke says.

“We are extremely pleased to partner which such a vital organisation and look forward to raising awareness and fighting together against deadly diseases.”

THRF Group Chief Executive Officer Paul Flynn is excited to be teaming up with such a successful organisation both on and off the field.

“The Hospital Research Foundation fights for the health and wellbeing of our community which links perfectly to such a community-minded football club like the Eagles,” Paul says.

“Our current ‘Together. Fight.’ campaign encourages South Australians to band together to help in the fight against disease and illness. Together with the Eagles, we hope to raise awareness and unite the local community towards this common goal.

“We’ve all been united in the fight against COVID-19 this year, but there are many other deadly diseases which need our support. We look forward to further engaging our shared supporters and wider community at Eagles games and other opportunities throughout 2021.”

Woodville West Torrens has been around since the merger between Woodville and West Torrens 30 years ago and has a strong passion for creating community awareness around the health and wellbeing space. It boasts more than 2200 members, senior men’s and women’s teams, and underage and talent squads from U13s.

THRF Group has a proud 55-year history in the western suburbs, starting as The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) Research Foundation in 1965. Now, in addition to TQEH, the charity supports world-leading medical research and patient care initiatives across all public hospitals, universities and medical research centres in South Australia.
