2021; Recruits, Re-Signs & Goodbyes

The 2021 Season is almost here, and we are delighted to see the following players re-sign for the 2021 Season:

Amongst our re-signings, we have also been fortunate enough to recruit a number of players. We’d like to welcome to Oval Ave;

Kobe & Rhys Mutch – a brother combo from Gol Gol in country NSW.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Kobe has joined us from Essendon. Kobe was drafted with pick 42 in the 2016 National Draft. The 187cm Midfielder debuted in 2018 and played 5 games in his four seasons at the club before recently being delisted.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Kobe’s brother Rhys, a medium defender, is also joining us from North Melbourne VFL. He spent 2019 there and was set to play there in 2020 before their season was cancelled due to COVID.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Clay Cameron – Redland (NEAFL) player.

Clay previously played 23 games for the Gold Coast Suns between 2013 – 2016, and has been twice selected in the NEAFL Team of the Year as a key forward.

Stephen Mills – Redland (NEAFL)  

Stephen is a 197cm tall defender with pace and a strong pair of hands. A junior from Rockhampton; he broke into the senior ranks where he won a scholarship with Gold Coast Suns. He then headed west, where he played three years in the WAFL, playing with South Fremantle and Perth. Following this, he joined the NEAFL where had played between 2017 – 2019.

Mitch Hardie – Canberra Demons

Mitch is 24 year old, 185cm forward from the Canberra Demons . Mitch finished runner-up in Canberra’s best-and-fairest, and has earned a place in the NEAFL Team of the Year twice now.

Cooper Sharman – Coburg FC⠀⠀⠀

Cooper is a 20 year, 193cm, key forward. He moved from Leeton in country NSW to Melbourne in 2019 to attend university. It was here he started his season playing local football at Balwyn, however he ended the season as a NAB League premiership player with Oakleigh Chargers.

Cooper was invited to the National Draft Combine, and signed on to play at Coburg in the VFL in 2020 which was cancelled due to COVID-19.⠀

We’d also like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to the Sam Lowson & Will McPherson.

Sam returned to Melbourne two weeks after the Grand Final to have surgery on his knee which was injured in the final minor round match at Elizabeth. For family reasons, he will remain in Melbourne, but Sam has indicated that a move back to South Australia and the Eagles is in his future plans.

Will has been in the senior squad for the previous four seasons, and whilst he hasn’t been able to break into the league side, he has been integral part of the Reserves back six and is a much-loved member within the playing group. Will started a new job in 2020 and has found that he hasn’t been able to invest in the program fully.

The Club wishes to thank both Sam and Will for their input into the Club and we hope to see them back at Oval avenue in the near future.
