Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Shineah Goody has become the third SANFLW star to be snapped up by Port Adelaide during the AFLW’s Expansion U18 Talent Pathway signing period.
Joining fellow Power academy members in West Adelaide’s Lauren Young and Norwood’s Molly Brooksby in the past two days, Goody lands at Alberton ahead of next month’s AFLW Draft.
The 18-year-old’s tremendous dedication in making countless journeys from Edithburgh at the foot of Yorke Peninsula to Woodville has paid off with an opportunity at elite level.
A classy ball magnet who measures in at 162cm, Goody has already displayed her prowess in the Hostplus SANFLW League by winning the 2022 Powerade Breakthrough Player award. This year, she was the Eagles’ SANFLW best-and-fairest.
Claiming All-Australian guernseys in 2022 and 2023, Goody was a vital cog in both of South Australia’s AFLW National Championship-winning teams, claiming the overall tournament MVP award last year.
“Shineah is one of those unassuming types because of her size, but is a really dangerous inside mid,” Port Adelaide AFLW list manager Naomi Maidment told the club’s website.
”She wins a lot of her own footy and could have an immediate impact at AFLW level. She’s very strong, athletic, accumulates lots of possession and is good inside and outside.”
This year’s AFLW Draft will be held on Monday December 18, with the Expansion U18 Talent Pathway Period closing on Friday November 17.
