The Woodville West Torrens Football Club is thrilled to announce that Sam Jacobs has been appointed as the Eagles Men’s Senior Coach.
As a former player of our Club, Sam played with us in 2006 before being drafted by the Carlton Football Club in the 2007 Rookie Draft. He debuted for Carlton in 2009, playing 17 games in 2 years, before being traded to the Adelaide Crows, where he played from 2011 to 2019. Jacobs played a further one year of AFL for the GWS Giants before retiring at the end of the 2020 season.
Sam is known for his physicality, work ethic, and leadership skills during his playing career and was a highly respected player across the league. He returned to Adelaide after retiring and took on a role as the Adelaide Crows Club’s Engagement Executive and an Assistant Role with the Adelaide Crows SANFL Program.
We are delighted to have Sam back at the Club as the Men’s Senior Coach. He was a standout performer during his time with the Club and quickly became a fan favourite. His passion for the game and leadership skills were evident from the start, and we are excited to see what he can achieve in this new role.
In addition, I am proud to welcome back Club legend Gavin Colville, who will take on a Senior Assistant Coaching Position. Gavin played 232 games for the WWTFC, was Club captain, and a key member of the Club’s success during the 1990s and 2000s. In addition, Gavin was Senior SANFL Coach for West Adelaide, and his knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the team.
The selection process for the senior coach was challenging, with all candidates being of an exceptional standard. The Coaching Selection Panel was committed to identifying a coach who understood the SANFL, WWTFC and how to best work with the playing group. The final decision was extremely well-considered. Both the Coaching Selection Panel and WWTFC Board are incredibly confident that the Club has chosen the right person, Sam, to lead the Club forward on the field and can’t wait to see what the future holds for the WWTFC under his leadership.
We look forward to welcoming Sam, his wife Isabella, and three children, Imogen, Alba and Willow, to the Club. With Sam and Gavin on board, we are confident that the WWTFC will continue to thrive and be successful in the years to come.
