The Under 18s had a good win against Norwood on Saturday, winning a tough contest by 21 points.
Norwood have proved to be difficult for us this year, beating us in Rounds 2 and 4 earlier this year at home. Although we started ok we were a bit astray in our goal kicking and after kicking just the 5 points from 7 shots on goal we were 5 points down at quarter time. We started our second quarter well with 3 goals in 5 minutes but the Redlegs were strong in defence and held us for the rest of the quarter and kicked 2 goals late to make it a 1 point game at half time. The 3rd quarter continued along similar lines to the previous 2 as a great contest and although we were again inaccurate, Norwood’s defence and ball movement were threatening all the time and we had a 12 point lead going into the last quarter. This proved to be our best quarter and with 3 goals 5 points we took the game out to a 21 point margin, the final score being Eagles 8 goals 16 points to Norwood’s 6 goals 7 points.
Charlie West was a tower of strength as a key forward taking 10 marks with 6 of them being contested, Jake Andrews was similarly strong as a Key Defender with 6 spoils and 3 contested intercept marks and 4 great tackles, Tate Delmenico was a very good defender and Jett Hasting and Zac Schwarz worked hard in our midfield to generate scoring opportunities for us with Josh Capogreco working hard in our Forward 50. This week Lachlan Hewlett played his first game of Under 18 footy joining Charlie Baker who played his first game last week – taking to 47 the number of players we have played this year.
On Saturday we play Sturt at 12.15pm in a triple header with our Development Team, the first of consecutive games against the Blues as the challenges continue.
