Eagles 2.4 (16) def by Glenelg 7.9 (51)
Best Players: Jaimi Tabb, Ash Reid , Caitlin Sampson, Madeleine Dufek, Abby Pengelly, Georgia Taylor
Goal Scorers: Kiana Lee 2
The Woodville West Torrens SANFLW team took to the field for the first time on Friday against Glenelg. The first quarter was a close affair with both teams going in hard for the contested ball. Amie Blanden started well on the Bays star forward Lucy Bellinger and Co-Captain Tash Farrier saw some of it early. The Bays kicked the first goal of the match, but not long after Kiana Lee equalised with the first goal for the Club. A fitting result with Kiana having come through the talent pathway at the Eagles. The second quarter saw the Bays turn on some good footy and add four goals to their tally, opening up a gap on the scoreboard. We settled in the second half but were unable to close the gap.
Overall the women played some good football and moved the ball seamlessly on the outside at times. Developing consistency will be the key to better results, and with 19 SANFLW debutants we expect the improvement will be there week-in week-out. Jaimi Tabb was a standout in the midfield, with Maddy Dufek contributing well up forward and Ash Reid solid down back.
We look forward to the challenge of taking on a strong West Adelaide outfit coming off a win in the first round. We hope you to see you at City Mazda Stadium from 7pm supporting the team.
