Round 6 Women’s League Match Report

Round 6 saw the Eagles League side head to Noarlunga to take on South.  We were confident that it would be a better show for us collectively and we felt well prepared.

Again we started slow allowing South to kick 4 in the first in comparison to our 1.  This is a trend for our side at the moment having lapses in quarters and not being able to stem the flow of momentum – it is a work in progress.  In comparison to Q1, we came out firing in the second and kicked 5 of our own to hold a 4 point lead at halftime.  Q3 was an arm wrestle with both sides only managing one major and we lead the major break with a 5 point buffer.  The last quarter saw the opposition kick 3 goals and we failed to score a goal with the final margin being 11 points.

It was a disappointing loss yet again with us having the game in our sights and just not managing to stay in long enough to get the win.  On a positive note, our debutant from Mildura Chantelle Mitchell showed she belongs at the level and Ashley Baker who was promoted from Development League also contributed well.

At the half way mark of the season we feel like we have let several games get away from us and this one is no different.

From a team performance perspective, our development is clear playing a better style of football and as the saying goes we will ‘stick to the process’ and learn to grind out a win in close situations.

On a super positive note, the Development squad had its biggest win of the year – congratulations to Matt Knight and the playing group.

It is an exciting space and showcases the future players of our footy club in this new layer of the SANFLW competition.

Our Development Squad is full of exciting players who are already knocking on the door for a League opportunity.  We now have to bounce back, suit up for R7 and head north to play Centrals who will have their tails up after a stirring win against Sturt – we look forward to the challenge.
