The Under 18s had a very good win against Glenelg on Saturday, winning a tough encounter by 11 points. We started very well and although we created many scoring opportunities in the first quarter we weren’t able to convert them, and we took an 8 point lead into quarter time with our 16 forward 50 entries only converting to 3 goals. The second quarter was some of our best footy as we kicked 5 goals with a great mixture of defence and offence – contrary to the first quarter we kicked 5 goals from our 9 Forward 50 entries. The second half became a bit of an arm wrestle with Glenelg kicking 5 goals to our 3 goals and importantly we learned our lessons from our 2 recent draws and showed some good composure and decision making late in the game as the margin tightened.
Sam Nicholls (11 tackles), Zac Phillips (11 Inside 50s) and Dusty Launer (3 goals) all played well in our midfield, Will Pearce played a role creating contests in our forward line, Brayden Calvett was lively across the wings and Liam Ueding, Jonte Hunter-Price and Brock Thomson were very good defenders. This week we had the opportunity to debut Bodie McNeil and Oliver Siney and both showed their capabilities, Bodie in defence and Ollie in our Forward line.
We have the bye this week and then we take on South Adelaide at home on July 3rd.
Further to our Under 17 State Squad representation announced last week, congratulations to Adam D’Aloia who was named Captain of the State under 17s and played a great game in their win against Western Australia yesterday.
Last week also saw 10 WWTFC players announced as part of the initial South Australian Under 19 squad – Charlie Blair, Jase Burgoyne, Brayden Calvett, Lukas Cooke, Jonte Hunter-Price, Max Litster, Jordan Lukac, Zac Phillips, Jay Watson and Brock Thomson.
