Sheedy Lands in Eagles Nest

By ZAC MILBANK

Woodville-West Torrens has secured the prized signature of Jade Sheedy to be its full-time coach for the next three seasons.

Sheedy, a 2002 Magarey Medallist and Sturt premiership midfielder, said he was desperate to rejoin SANFL ranks after spending the past five years in charge of Adelaide Footy League club Athelstone.

The 39-year-old’s tenure with the Raggies finished with a drought-breaking Division Two premiership win after appearing in three Grand Finals during his time at the helm.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, Sheedy said he was itching to get started at Oval Avenue, noting the strong structure present across all grades.

He will attend Sunday’s SANFL Grand Final to watch the Reserves play in the title-decider against Norwood while also noting the talent flowing through after the U18s’ triumph in the Torrens University Cup last Sunday.

With just 200 Club member Scott Lewis as the club’s only certain retirement at this stage, Sheedy is well aware he already has a talented list to work with for season 2020.

The majority of this year’s crop is expected to remain, plus favourite son Jimmy Toumpas will act as a virtual recruit next year if he can overcome the injury concerns he endured throughout 2019.

It all has Sheedy extremely excited to begin his next chapter in the Statewide Super League.
