It was a bit of a different feel for the reserves on the weekend as we travelled to the opposite direction of the league team to take on West Adelaide at Richmond oval.
With conditions not at the greatest the emphasis was on doing the basics really well and sticking to it for longer. A win would mean we play finals and give us an opportunity for the double chance against a team that was in the 5.
From the opening bounce the boys set their intent scoring the first 3 goals in the first 6 minutes of the game. The forwards were outstanding with their forward pressure setting the tone for the game and our mids giving the forwards some nice movement to take a 20 point lead.
Going against the wind in the second quarter it was really important that our contested ball was there and to the credit of West Adelaide they lifted here and it meant we had to lift our standards which we did well with some nice chains of ball movement to extend our lead.
The third quarter saw our best football played for the year. The hunger of our forwards and mids to keep the ball in our forward half was outstanding. The flow on effect was we were sharp with our possession to have a scoring shot 1 in 6.55 possesion’s.
Finishing off the game with the same standards as the first 3 quarters was important for our group. We knew West being a top 5 side would throw everything at us but we were able to hold West at bay to record a 46 point victory.
